Pumpkin Junction

Pumpkin Junction 2005

Teresinha organised the Pumpkin Junction installation for Halloween in two weeks of October/November 2005 at the Custard Factory, Birmingham. Teresinha and 30 friends from Walsall Road Allotments, Birmingham grew over 500 pumpkins and squashes for this community arts project.

The Pumpkin Junction installation represents an aerial view of Spaghetti Junction (Junction 6 on the M6 motorway, Birmingham UK) with pumpkins for vehicles and a Pumpkin Pile Up at the Junction. The 'Tromba d'Alberga' pumpkins are jack-knifed lorries, two marrows end to end are articulated lorries, giant pumpkins are wide loads whilst the smaller pumpkins are cars and motorbikes.

Visitors loved the pumpkins. They sat on them, laid down next to them (as if they had been run over), thumbed lifts and laughed.
